E3 Earthlings FLL Team #6657
FLLEarthlings.org
Smart Move
The Earthlings are students who go to different
schools during the week, but have studied
simple machines and tabletop robotics with
LEGOs with Earthman, their coach.  This year's
group features past Earthlings and some new
faces also.  The Young Earthlings Junior FIRST
LEGO League team is similar in composition.

THE 2009 SEASON

Smart Move
is the challenge this year and it's
all about safer, cleaner, more efficient
transportation of people, goods, and services.

THE REGIONAL

The E3 Earthlings FLL Team #6657 attended
the first FLL regional at Hathaway Brown.  Team
members were impressed with the school and
its campus, but the judges were impressed
with the team's presentation skills, energy, and
camaraderie.  They took a Judge's Award.  The
regional's champions featured the head coach
and a builder/handler from the 2004/2005
EES/SEMAA Earthlings, the highest awarded
Earthlings team to date.

Although the Earthlings did not qualify for the
state tournament this year they did create a
team that can continue for several years and
grow more and more along the way.  They still
struggle with their robots on some tables and
most haven't had regular robotics classes with
their coach yet, but they work well together and
enjoyed success in their rookie year as a team.

JUNIOR FIRST LEGO LEAGUE

For the Jr. FLL expo, the Young Earthlings built
models demonstrating the transportation of
chocolate globally and explored problems and
solutions to urban road traffic locally.

The E3 Young Earthlings (Team #239) traveled
to the Dayton JFLL Expo and there they were
awarded the Team Spirit Award.  Also, D Pope
(yes, that's her first name, "D") was the first
Earthling and first team member on any of the
teams that the head coach has worked with
who won a rare Gracious Professionalism
award at the expo.  She battled illness to attend
and yet was part of a team that showed great
team spirit and enthusiasm, which the judges
recognized.

All in all it was an excellent season for all the
Earthlings and the foundation of years of
continued robotics excellence to come.
