LANGUAGE ARTS

DKTurnipseed
is a young arts and sciences
student in Cleveland, Ohio.  In 2009, he
participated in his first spelling bee, at the
Union Branch of the Cleveland Public Library
System.  He won!
DKT then joined many other students from
around the city at the main branch, the Louis
Stokes branch, along with fellow Union Branch
winner, Joshua Hill.
There are two age groups for the competition:
3rd - 5th graders and 6th - 8th graders.
Turnipseed was in third grade and Hill in sixth.
Hill is the 2007 city champ and took third in the
city in 2008.

In 2009, DKT submitted his design proposal
for a new bike station in downtown Cleveland:
Firewall/Cascade.  The concept was to use
special paints to create two images in the
same space.  The first image, fire, would be
seen in the bright light of day.  The second
image, rain, would be seen in low light and
projected black light, UV light, during the night.
DKT created his design on his own laptop,
which he purchased with money he earned
assisting in tabletop robotics demonstrations
the summer before.
